E. Turnipseed, near Fairfield, Iowa on Feb. 15, 1926, aged 85 years and 13 days. Her husband preceeded her in death on Aug. 8, 1887. She grew to womanhood in Ohio, and came to Iowa while yet a young lady. Most of her long life was lived in Washington county, either in or around Wellman. She was the last of her family to pass away. She was married to John Turnipseed on August 6, 1856, and to them were born six children-two boys and four girls-all of whom are living. She also assumed the faithful responsibility of being a mother to three step-children, born to Mr. Turnipseed and his first wife. Mrs. Turnipseed became a member of the Methodist Episcopal church early in life, and was a loyal and devoted member of the same all of her active life. It is needless to say she lived a good life, and was interested only in the best things for herself and others. Since about Christmas last she spent most of the days in bed, only sitting up for a little while at a time. She simply lived out her natural strength and departed for the better world. The children left to mourn their loss are: Mrs. O. T. Taylor, Wellman, Iowa; Mrs. Scott Griffith, of Pacific Palisades, Calif; Mrs. E. E. Hess, Skidmore, Texas; Anderson Turnipseed, of Wellman; J. E. Turnipseed, of near Fairfield, Iowa, and Mr. J. E. Wellman, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and one step- daughter, Mrs. Zelmira Foster. Besides many relatives and friends she leaves twenty-one grandchildren, twenty-seven great grandchildren and one great (great) grandchild. Funeral services were held at the Wellman M.E. church Wednesday afternoon, at 1 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Jno. F. Rex. Interment in the Wellman cemetery. Additional Comments: This was an excerpt of a part of her obituary, that was read at her funeral.
