Webster County, Iowa Newspaper 1919
(This obituary was in the civil war pension file of James B. Ingalls and is not 
dated.  His death certificate says he died April 29, 1919, so presume the local 
newspaper obituary for him was a day or two after that.

JAMES B. INGALLS PASSES AWAY AFTER MANY WEEKS OF INTENSE SUFFERING
Member Co. D. 16th IA Infantry

James B. Ingalls, a civil war veteran and a well known and highly respected 
citizen of Lehigh, passed away Tuesday evening about four o'clock, after an 
extended sickness of kidney and other complications, he suffering severely 
during the past few weeks and death came as a relief.

James Brown Ingalls was born in Illinois in 1839 and when a small boy left that 
state with his parents and came to Iowa, where they located in Jefferson 
county.  They made their home there for some time and prior to the civil war 
Mr. Ingalls came to Webster county.  In 1861 he heard the call of his county 
and volunteered, enlisting in Company D, 16th Regiment, Iowa Infantry, and he 
served throughout the war, being in service a little over four years.  At the 
close of the war he returned to this place and has made his home here since.

July 5, 1885, he was united in marriage to Mrs. China Crawford.  Several years 
ago he was converted and joined the Christian church, of which church he was a 
faithful member until his death.  Besides a sorrowing wife he leaves one 
daughter Mrs. George Drain of this place; one brother, T.B. Ingalls of Fort 
Dodge; and one sister Mrs. Wilson of Dayton, Oregon,  besides a large number of 
neighbors and friends who mourn with the relatives the loss of this good man.  
Mr. Ingalls was a good citizen, quiet and unassuming,  and always to be found 
on the side of right.   Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 2 
o'clock from the United Brethren church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Mille 
and the interment will occur in the family burial lot in the Border Plains 
Cemetery. The sympathy of all is extended the bereaved relatives.
