H. Crowell, of the firm of Crowell & Martin, commission merchants and wholesale dealers in foreign and domestic goods, green and dried fruits, confectionery, etc., corner of 3rd and Pearl streets, was born in Mass, in 1838; followed sailing eleven years; has visited almost every foreign clime, and is a man of wide experience. During the late war he was on a government transport. He located in Benton Harbor, Mich., where he engaged in the dry goods business. In April, 1880, he came to this place, where he embarked in his present business, under the firm name of Crowell & Co.; afterwards, Geo. N. Martin became a partner. The firm name was changed to its present name. This is the only exclusive commission house in the city.
