J. P. Dennis, of the firm of Dennis & Co., was born in Somerset county, Maine,
in 1832, removed to N. Y. in 1851; thence to Dubuque, Ia., in 1853, and to this
city in 1867. He served his country in the late war from 1862 until 1863 in Co.
G, 40th I. I.
