     Robert D. Downing, 66, of Madera, Calif., and formerly of Ute and Sioux 
City, died Tuesday, May 14, 1991, at Madera.
	
	Mr. Downing was born Dec. 22, 1924, in Sioux City, the son of Rollie 
and Hazel (Kroll) Downing.  
	On Feb. 18, 1946, he married Lela Straight at Papillion, Neb.   
	Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Lana and Jim 
Chapman of Yakima, Wash., and Peggy and Nick McAleer of Madera; six 
grandchildren; one great-grandson; a brother and his wife, James and Zelma 
Downing of Sioux City.
	He was preceded in death by his parents.
