Hildreth Former Monona County Citizen Passes Away Abt. 1945 Anthon, Ia.: Merritt Barr Hildredth(sic), 67, town clerk of Anthon for the last four years died suddenly Tuesday afternoon just after he had entered his car in front of the residence of Mayor James Burke on whom he had called to discuss(sic) town business. The cause of his death was not given by the attending physician. Mr. Hildredth was born August 14, 1878, in Mills county, Iowa. When he was 1 years old the family moved to Monona County. At Ute, Iowa on August 14, 1901 he married Miss Bessie McKinstry. The family moved to Anthon 26 years ago and with the exception of four years at Denison Iowa, this has been their home. For about 10 years Mr. Hildreth operated a bus line between Sioux City and Anthon. Survivors are the widow; two daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Hoelker and Mrs. Winifred McGraw, both of Anthon; a sister, Mrs. Della Marshall of Murtagh, Idaho, and eight grand children. Requiem high mass was said at 9:30 on Thursday by Rev. A. Conlon in St. Joseph’s Catholic church here. Burial was made in St. Joseph’s cemetery at Anthon. Hidgels funeral home had charge of funeral arrangements.
