OBITUARY: Mrs. Iver (Nickolena Dahlum) Syverson, Worth County, Iowa Mrs. Iver Syverson 1850-1927 Mrs. Iver Syverson (76) died on Friday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Theo. Folken in Scarville. She had been in poor health a long time, suffering from cancer. She was a sister of Mrs. C.W. Wescott of Lake Mills. Her funeral was held at Salem Lutheran Church. Nickolena Dahlum was born August 10, 1850 in Oslo, Norway. She died March 18, 1927. She came to America when eighteen years of age. She married Iver Syverson in 1872 at Rock Creek, Mitchell Co., Iowa. She came to Lake Crystal for a few years, then Long Lake, MN and homesteaded. Grasshoppers destroyed three successive crops, forcing them to abandon their homestead, having lost everything except their oxen and wagon that took them back to Lake Crystal. They then moved to a farm near Scarville where they lived about half a century until three years ago when they moved to Scarville. Her husband died twelve years ago. She was mother of twelve children, with three preceding her in death-Marie, in infancy, and Nickolai and Harry in early manhood. Surviving her are Simon, Minneapolis; Emil, Minneapolis; Emil, Raymond, Montana; Oscar, Frost; Henry, Clarks Grove; Otto, Preeceville, Canada; Martin, Anton, Mrs. Tom Sydness and Mrs. Theo Folken of this area; 27 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild and one sister, Mrs. C.E. Wescott, Lake Mills. The funeral was held at Salem Lutheran Church, with Rev. O.R. Sletten and Rev. S.J. Fretheim officiating and burial in the Salem Lutheran Cemetery.
