OBITUARY: ROSE BERGO FORDE, Worth County, Iowa (Mason City Globe Gazette JULY 24, 2001) ROSE BERGO FORDE [1913-2001] ELK HORN - Rose Forde, 87, of Elk Horn and formerly of Northwood, died Monday (July 16, 2001) at Salem Lutheran Homes in Elk Horn. Funeral services were held Thursday, July 19, at Elk Horn Lutheran Church, with Pastor Michael Williams and Celeste Waymire, AIM, officiating. Funeral services were held on Friday, July 20, at the First Shell Rock Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Alfred Merseth and the Rev. Karl Hermanson, officiating. Visitation was held on Wednesday, July 18 at the Ohde Funeral Home in Kimballton. Rose, daughter of Oscar and Alvina (Anderson) Bergo, was born Nov. 8, 1913, in Worth County. She attended country school near her home and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church near Emmons, Minn. Following her schooling, Rose helped her parents on the farm. On May 3, 1930, Rose was united in marriage with Selmer J. Forde. Six children were born to this union. Rose and Selmer farmed near Northwood for 12 years. They then lived in several places throughout Iowa while Selmer worked in the construction business. The family finally settled in rural Elk Horn, where Rose worked at Elk Horn Produce. In 1982, the couple moved into Elk Horn. After Selmer's death in 1986, Rose continued to live alone until entering Salem Lutheran Homes in Elk Horn on May 18, 2001. She died there July 16, 2001, at the age of 87 years, 8 months and 8 days. Rose was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Jerry Forde; grandson, Scott Forde; and stepgreat-grandson, Austin Forde; and son-in-law, Kenneth Nelson. Rose is survived by three daughters, Doris and her husband, Alden Asbjornson, of Kensett, Beverly Nelson, of Northwood, and Shirley and her husband, Arthur Peterson, of Kimballton; two sons, Ronald Forde, of Texas, and Stanley Forde and his wife, Cynthia, of Hempstead, Texas; 18 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; nine stepgreat-great-grandchildren; sister, Clarine Neuman, of Manly; sister-in-law, Beatrice Dykstra; brother-in-law, Oscar Sunde; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
