Bride Colonial Chapel, (515) 454-2242. #2 [ Mason City Globe Gazette Online Obituaries ] Tuesday, May 18, 1999 ADELBERT 'DELL' HOFF MANLY - Adelbert "Dell" Hoff, 83, of Manly, died peacefully in his sleep Sunday (May 16, 1999) at his home. Funeral services and visitation will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Bride Colonial Chapel, 110 E. Spring St., Manly, with the Rev. Robert Cumings, of the Bethel United Methodist Church of Manly, officiating. Following the service on Wednesday, the family will greet friends at the Bethel United Methodist Church for fellowship and lunch. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday at the Bible Baptist Church, in Reedsburg, Wis. Burial will be in the Butterfield Cemetery in Reedsburg. The Hammer-Hoof Funeral Home, 312 N. Park St., Reedsburg, Wis. is in charge of those arrangements. Adelbert "Dell" Hoff was born on Oct. 24, 1914 in Reedsburg, Wis., the son of John Edward and Lydia Jane (Davis) Hoff. He attended and received his education in the rural Mirror Lake, Wis. school system. After completing his schooling, he worked for a time as a cowboy in South Dakota. He was united in marriage to Gynith Abbs on Oct. 25, 1941, in the Kahoka Evangelical Church in Kahoka, Mo. After their marriage, he operated the family dairy farm near Reedsburg, Wis. until 1953. He also owned and operated a service station in Reedsburg and later in Clear Lake. In 1958, he moved to his present home in Manly and began working as a heavy equipment operator in highway construction, traveling and working throughout the mid-west and western states, retiring in 1977. Dell spent his retirement years traveling, reading, watching baseball, playing cards with his grandchildren, and enjoying the company of his family and sharing many wonderful stories of his youth with his grandchildren, and playing with his great-grandchildren. He will also be remembered for his great sense of humor. He was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church in Manly. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Gynith Hoff, of Manly; two daughters, Charlene Hauser and her husband, Dennis, of Manly; and Geraldine Gallagher and her husband, Frank, of Cherokee; three sons, David Hoff and his wife, Becky, of Chicago, Ill.; Daniel Hoff and his wife, Lanetta, of Tulsa, Okla.; and Dale Hoff, of Scottsdale, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren, Richard, Robert and his wife, Janean, and Ronald Hauser, Jason and his special friend, Tracy, Isaac and his special friend, Tiffany, Andrea and Amelinda Hoff, Shawn and his wife, Angela Gallagher, Schaine, Tehran, and Chelsay Keck; five great-grandchildren, Tyler and Ethan Hoff, Christian Keck, and Mandi and Taddy Fair; four sisters-in-law, Helen Hoff and Florence Abbs, of Reedsburg, Wis., Beatrice Reda, of Tacoma, Wash., and Normenta Klang, of McFarland, Wis.; two brothers-in-law, Harold Michel, of Reedsburg, Wis., and Ernest Reda, of Tacoma, Wash.; as well as many nieces and nephews; as well as other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Ole, Edward and John Hoff; three sisters, Elma Jopp, Anna Burton, and Bertha Daniels. Bride Colonial Chapel, Manly, (515) 454-2242.
