OBITUARY: Lucille Hoyt, Worth County, Iowa Lucille Bertha (Gallion) Hoyt [1914-2001] [Northwood Anchor Newspaper online - www.northwoodanchor.com - 9/18/2001] Lucille Bertha Hoyt, 87, Manly, died Saturday, Sept. 15, 2001, at the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood. Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Bethel United Methodist Church in Manly with Rev. Robert Cumings officiating. Burial was in the Manly Cemetery. Lucille Bertha Hoyt was born on June 10, 1914, in rural Manly, the daughter of William and Bertha (Cookman) Gallion. She attended and received her education in the Manly School system, graduating from Manly High School in 1932. Lucille also attended Hamilton Business College in Mason City. After completing her education, Lucille worked as a bookkeeper for various companies in the north Iowa area. She married John Jerry Hoyt on Dec. 31, 1943, in Grand Rapids, MN. He preceded her in death on Nov. 20, 1970. In 1948, she began helping her husband as bookkeeper in their family owned business the Hoyt Repair Company in Manly, and after her husband's death she continued in the family business and also operated a small farm with her son, Byron until 1993, when she retired due to ill health. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, quilting, baking cookies, and visiting with her customers at the Hoyt Repair Company, but her great love and enjoyment was her family and grandchildren. Lucille faithfully attended the Bethel United Methodist Church in Manly and was baptized at the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood on July 13, 1997, by the Rev. Richard Jensen of the United Methodist Church in Northwood. Left to cherish her memory are her two children, Betty Chapin and her husband Lynn of Northwood, and Byron Hoyt and his wife Carol of Manly; four grandchildren, Steven Chapin and his wife Mary of Hampton, and Wendy Chapin Fields and her husband Ernest of Kansas City, Mo., Bridget Hoyt of West Des Moines, and Jeremy Hoyt of Des Moines; four great-grandchildren, Michael and Sarah Chapin, and Derek and Darren Fields; three sisters, Edna Tietz of Manly, Hazel Vansteenburg and her husband Barton of Battle Lake, MN., and Violet Vansteen-burg of Manly; as well as other relatives and friends. Besides her husband and her parents, a brother, Roy Gallion, and a sister, Mildred Fread, preceded her in death.
