OBITUARY: LeRoy B. Larson 1929-2001, Worth County, Iowa [Northwood Anchor Newspaper online - www.northwoodanchor.com - 11/06/2001] Services Wednesday for LeRoy B. Larson, Emmons Funeral services for LeRoy B. Larson, 71, Emmons, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, at Silver Lake Lutheran Church. Rev. Steve Smith will officiate. Interment will be at Silver Lake Lutheran Cemetery. LeRoy Bernell Larson died on Nov. 4, 2001 at home after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born on Nov. 29, 1929 at his home in rural Emmons, MN, the son of Harry Arnold and Pearl Agnes (Johnson) Larson. He attended County District 105 country school until the end of 8th grade. He continued his education at Emmons Public School where he graduated in 1947. He married Shirley Ann Thompson on July 24, 1954 at First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea, MN. After marriage, LeRoy continued farming on his century farm where he farmed 160 acres and raised livestock for many years. In 1968 he began working at Wilson's meat packing plant in Albert Lea, MN where he continued working until his retirement. LeRoy was always an active member of Silver Lake Church in rural Northwood, where he was baptized and confirmed. He served as church treasurer, on the church council and most recently as a member of the cemetery board. In addition to his many years of service to the church, LeRoy also served two terms on the Emmons Public school board. He was also a member of the Albert Lea Eagles and Elks Club. Survivors include his wife Shirley Ann; their children Gregory Alan and his wife Lynee of Austin, MN, Michael Jon and his wife Ada of Red Wing, MN, Judy Ann Hanson and her husband Kurt of Wyoming, MN and Lori Kay Otterson and her husband Robin of Hanover, MN; seven grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Marjorie Lindquist, Albert Lea, Doris Trustem and her husband Don, Brainerd, Mary Erickson, Rochester, Ray Thompson and his wife Sandy, Mike Thompson and his wife Judy and Larry Thompson and his wife Vickie, all of Albert Lea and aunt Luella Peterson, Albert Lea; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Agnes Larson and sister and brother-in-law Hazel and Iver Sorensen; sister-in-law Helen Brown and brother-in-law Robert Thompson.
