OBITUARY: Louise Maddix, Worth Co., Iowa Louise Maddix [1922-2001] [ Mason City Globe Gazette -- Sept. 18, 2001 -- http://pafways/org ] MANLY - Louise Maddix, 79, died Saturday (Sept. 15, 2001) at her home in Manly. A memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. today at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manly with the Rev .David Kucera and Monsignor Joseph Slepicka officiating. Inurnment will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Manly. Bride Colonial Chapel, 110 East Spring Street, Manly, is in charge of the arrangements. The family of Louise Maddix has requested that memorial contributions be made in her memory. According to her wishes, her body was cremated. Louise Maddix was born on January 8, 1922, in Rockport, Mass., the daughter of William and Nellie (Fears) Powers. She received her education in the Rockport, Mass. school system, graduating from Rockport High School. Louise also graduated from a business college in Boston, Mass. After completing her schooling, she worked at the Capeann Tool Company in Rockport during World War II. She was united in marriage to William Thomas Maddix on Sept. 1, 1945, in Rockport, Mass. He preceded her in death on July 10, 1986. After their marriage they moved to Cranston, R.I., before moving to Manly in 1948. After moving to Manly, Louise worked at the Podendorf Pharmacy in Manly and the Elks Lodge and Huber's Supply Company in Mason City. Louise enjoyed dancing, playing cards, golfing, gardening, traveling, cooking and baking. She loved children and animals and walking. She was an avid sports enthusiast and Boston Red Sox fan. Louise also enjoyed helping other people and doing many hours of volunteer work in the North Iowa area and at the Manly Nursing and Rehab Center. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the St. Ann's Guild at the church in Manly. Louise loved and enjoyed her church and being involved with church activities. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Brother Thomas David Maddix of Edmonton Alberta, Canada, William Joseph Maddix of Minneapolis, Minn., Mary Teresa Soliere of Holyoke, Mass., and Helen Elizabeth Maddix of Columbia Heights, Minn.; two grandchildren, Michael Soliere of Holyoke, Mass., and Helen Louise Hanson-Maddix of Minneapolis, Minn.; a great-grandson, Devin Soliere of Holyoke, Mass.; a sister, Helen Najarian and her husband, Arthur, of Rockland, Mass.; many nieces and nephews; a special friend, Bill Ouverson of Mason City; and many other relatives and many friends. Besides her husband William Thomas Maddix, she was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, John Mark Maddix, who died in December 1992; two brothers, Robert and Harvey Powers; and a sister, Catherine Gorman.
