OBITUARY: Crystal Juliette Nelson, Worth County, Iowa Crystal Juliette Severson Nelson 1914-2001 [Northwood Anchor Newspaper online - www.northwoodanchor.com - October 09, 2001] Crystal Nelson services held on Tuesday Crystal Juliette Nelson, 87, of Northwood, died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2001 at the Lutheran Retirement Home, Northwood. Funeral service was Tuesday at the First Lutheran Church, Northwood, with the Rev. Paul Holmer officiating. Interment was at South Shell Rock Cemetery, rural Northwood. Crystal was born Feb. 7, 1914 in Northwood, the daughter of Clarence and Julia (Tue) Severson. She was baptized into the Lutheran faith on March 22, 1914 at the North Shell Rock Church, rural Northwood. Crystal graduated from Northwood High School and married Arthur Nelson on Nov. 8, 1936 in Northwood. They lived on the Nelson family farm until the early 1950's, at which time the couple purchased their own farm in rural Northwood. After Art passed away in 1980, Crystal purchased a home in Northwood where she resided until moving to the Lutheran Retirement Home in 1990. She enjoyed sewing and embroidery, but her focus was taking care of her husband. Crystal was a member of the First Lutheran Church, First Lutheran Women, and several church circles. She also belonged to 3M, an organization of women who originally formed as a Red Cross Circle during WWII and later became a sewing circle, which donated many projects to charity. Crystal will be greatly missed by her sister, Leona Kenison, of Northwood, eight nieces and nephews, Larry Kenison and his special friend, Liz Barber, of Northwood, Brian Kenison and his wife, Connie, of Kensett, Linda Lindsay and her husband, Gary, of Marion, IA, Aljean Smith and her husband, Ed, of Montrose, IA, Clair Severson and his wife, Linda, of Hastings, MN, Judy Johnson of Stewartville, MN, Myra Harris and her husband, Lonnie, of Northwood and Mrs. Lee (Marilyn) Severson of Northwood; one sister-in-law, Francis Jorgenson of Minneapolis, Mabel Severson of Northwood; numerous great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews, and many other relatives and friends. Crystal was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Art Nelson, one brother, Leighton Severson, and one nephew, Leighton Severson Jr. Conner Colonial Chapel, Northwood, was in charge of arrangements.
