OBITUARY: Alfred H. Rugland, Worth County, Iowa Alfred H. Rugland, 89, died October 5, 1996 at the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at Silver Lake Lutheran Church, rural Northwood, with the Rev. Steven Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Silver Lake Lutheran Cemetery. Alfred H. Rugland was born on March 13, 1907 on the Rugland farm in Hartland Township, rural Worth Co., the son of Halvor and Anna (Tenold) Rugland. He was baptized by the Rev. Torgerson and reaffirmed the faith of his baptism through confirmation by Rev. Torgerson at the North Shell Rock Lutheran Church, rural Northwood. He attended and received his education in the Worth Co. School system. He was united in marriage to Carol Guida Junis Lien on May 20, 1931 in Decorah. She preceded him in death on June 16, 1995. After their marriage they farmed together in Freeborn Co. near Albert Lea, MN and also farmed in Worth Co. near Silver Lake. Alfred was a sales representative for DeKalb Seeds for 33 years. He enjoyed visiting with family and friends and loved to farm, but his great love and enjoyment was his family and grandchildren. He was a member of Silver Lake Lutheran Church, rural Northwood, and a former member of the church council and sexton at the Lunder Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Twin Lakes. Left to cherish his memory are two sons, Archie Rugland of Northwood and Arlow Rugland and his wife, Julie of Northwood; three grandchildren, Jessica, Kristoffer and Chad Rugland; sister-in-law, Thea Siebrecht of Northwood, as well as other relatives and friends. Besides his wife, he was also preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Gilbert, John, Elvin and Henry and a sister, Sena.
