OBITUARY: Maurice Raymond Severson, Worth County, Iowa [ Northwood Anchor online -- July 10, 2001 -- www.northwoodanchor.com ] Maurice Severson services held Monday, July 9 Maurice Raymond Severson, 89, Northwood, died Wednesday, July 4, 2001, at the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood. Funeral services were Monday at the First Lutheran Church, Northwood, with Rev. Allan Stoa officiating. Burial was in the Sunset Rest Cemetery in Northwood. Conner Colonial Chapel of Northwood was in charge of the arrangements. Maurice Raymond Severson was born on a farm in the Kensett Township, Worth County, Iowa, near Northwood, on May 13, 1912, the son of Martin E. and Randene "Dena" (Mehus) Severson. He was baptized and reaffirmed the faith of his baptism through confirmation at the South Shell Rock Lutheran Church, rural Northwood. He attended and received his education at the rural Kensett #3, and later at Northwood.
He married Gladys Lucille Heltne on June 28, 1936, at the Silver Lake Lutheran Church, rural Northwood. She preceded him in death on Nov. 1, 1996. After their marriage together they farmed southwest of Northwood until their retirement in 1977, and moved to Northwood in 1981.
Maurice was active in First Lutheran Church as a council member and also on the board with the rural school system. He also was a member of the Sons of Norway at Albert Lea, MN, and delivered for Meals on Wheels. He enjoyed horses and loved to farm. Left to cherish his memory include his children, daughter, Marilyn and her husband Antonio Sanchez of Walnut Creek, CA., daughter, Ruth and her husband LeRoy Simonson of Rolfe, IA, a son, Gene and his wife Janet Severson of Northwood; 10 grandchildren; a sister, Gladys Baldwin of Cedar Falls, IA; and many nieces and nephews; as well as other relatives and friends.
