OBITUARY: Stella J. (Carlson) Stehn, Worth County, Iowa [ The Northwood Anchor -- August 07, 2001 -- www.northwoodanchor.com ] Stella J. (Carlson) Stehn [1915-2001] Stella Stehn services Thursday, August 9 Stella J. Stehn, 86, of Northwood, IA, died Monday, Aug. 6, 2001 at her Maple Court Apartment in Northwood. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, 11 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church, Northwood, with Rev. Paul Holmer officiating. Burial will take place at the Sunset Rest Cemetery, Northwood. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at the Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, Highway 65 South, Northwood. Stella was born April 20, 1915 to Conrad and Marie (Peterson) Carlson and was a life long resident of Worth County. She was baptized and confirmed at the First Lutheran Church in Northwood. She was a member of the Rebecca Circle for many years. Stella graduated from Northwood High School in 1933. After graduation she taught in a rural school near Kensett. She also worked as a governess for a family in St. Paul, MN. On March 9, 1935 she married Fred Stehn at the Lutheran parsonage in Northwood. After their marriage they farmed near Carpenter until 1940 when they moved to their farm south east of Northwood. They resided there until 1978 when they moved to Northwood. She enjoyed music and for many years was a member of the Worth County Rural Women's Chorus. She also enjoyed gardening and cocking. She collected cookbooks, glassware and antique dishes. She was preceded in death by her husband Fred in 1992; her parents and two sisters, Esther Czekahski and Alma Peterson. Survivors include a daughter Wanda and husband Ronald Shovan of Clearwater, FL; grandson Mark and wife Tina Shovan of Dunedin, FL; great granddaughters Jennifer and Jillian Shovan of Dunedin, FL; one nephew and two nieces Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, Northwood, was in charge of arrangements.
