Irene Eleanor Dennis, 85, died Saturday Nov. 16, 2002 at the Willow Pointe
Assisted Living, Mason City, IA.
Funeral services were Wednesday at the First Lutheran Church, Northwood.
Interment was in the Sunset Rest Cemetery, Northwood.
Irene was born June 25, 1917 the daughter of Edward and Thea (Wold) Olson
in Northwood, IA. She attended Worth County country schools.
On Sept. 20, 1937 Irene married Lloyd "Speg" Skjeveland in Sisseton, SD.
They lived in Northwood for many years operating Irene's Diner and the
Maid-Rite Cafe, both on Central Ave. Mr. Skjeveland died in 1961. On Dec.
1, 1962 Irene married Frank Dennis in Albert Lea, MN. The couple then made
their home in Mason City. While living in Mason City Irene attended Hamilton
Business College and worked for Risto Manufacturing until her retirement.
Mr. Dennis died in 1980. In 1995 Irene moved into the Shalom Towers. In
2000 she then moved out to Willow Pointe Assisted Living were she stayed
until her death.
Irene was an avid Minnesota Twins fan. She always enjoyed a good game of
"500". In her younger years Irene loved to sew and do fine needlework.
Irene also looked forward to going to the Surf Ballroom to dance. Irene
was a former member of the Women of the Moose.
Irene is survived by one sister Edna Dishon of Appleton, MN, seven nieces,
three nephews, grand nieces and nephews, and many friends.
Mrs. Dennis was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, Lloyd
Skjeveland, and Frank Dennis, three sisters, Olga Haugen, Clara Wacholz,
and Pearl Skjeveland, three brothers, Elmer, Alvin, and Marvin Olson.
