OBITUARY: Johanne Jordre Groe 1874-1964, Worth County, Iowa (Northwood Graphic, FEB 19, 1964) Johanne Jordre Groe Mrs. A.T. Groe, 89, lifetime resident of the community, died February 14, 1964 at her home. The funeral was held at Silver Lake with the Rev. Norris Hanson officiating. She was born Johanne Jordre on August 23, 1874 in Hardanger, Norway. She came to America as a young girl. She married Amund T. Groe on August 20, 1896. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on August 10, 1946. She was the mother of nine children. She had made her home on farms in Silver Lake and Bristol Twp. in Worth Co. When Mr. Groe died, Mrs. Groe moved to Lake Mills to live with her daughter, Mrs. Clara Moen, who cared for her. She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, Mrs. Bennie (Lilly) Brunsvold. She is survived by her children: Mrs. Moen, Mrs. Henry (Elvina) Halvorson and Norris Groe, Lake Mills; Alfred Groe, Mrs. John (Olga) Liljedal, Mrs. Donald (Edith) Wright, and Mrs. Cora Mueller, all of Northwood; and Mrs. Kenneth Groe, West Burlington; 32 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.
