OBITUARY: Walter A. Kruger, Worth County, Iowa Walter A. Kruger [ The Northwood Anchor online - November 05, 2002 - www.northwoodanchor.com] Walter A. Kruger, 78, Northwood, formerly of rural Manly, died Saturday, Nov. 2, 2002 at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa. Funeral service was Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2002 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Manly, with Rev. Randy Nielsen officiating. A graveside service was held the same day at Grafton Cemetery, where military honors were conducted by the Tabbert-Hollatz American Legion Post #616. Walt was born Jan. 24, 1924 on his family farm outside of Manly, a son of Alvin and Esther (Walk) Kruger. He was baptized at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Grafton, and affirmed his faith through confirmation at the English Lutheran Church, Manly. Walt graduated from Plymouth High School in 1942 and then went to work on the family farm. He served in the United States Marines from April 1945 until August 1946 during World War II. After his honorable discharge, he returned home to again work on the family farm. Walt married Juanita Nagel on Aug. 2, 1952 at the First Christian Church in Mason City. They moved on to the home farm and lived and workedthere until November 2001. Walt was a lifelong farmer who began farming with his parents, and then continued with his brothers and finally, his sons. He was an active member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, serving on the church council and teaching Sunday school for nearly 40 years. Walt was also a 50-year member of the Tabbert-Hollatz American Legion Post #616 of Grafton, was a Grafton Township Board Member and served on the Grafton Co-op board. He enjoyed gardening and restoring antique tractors. Walt is survived by his wife, Juanita Kruger, of Northwood, two sons and their spouses, Dennis and Kathy Kruger of rural Manly and Keith and Julie Kruger of rural Kensett, six grandchildren, Erin (Kruger) Stewart and her husband, Nathan, of Waukee, IA, Jennifer Kruger of St. Paul, MN, Justin Kruger of rural Manly, Eric Kruger and his wife, Alissa, of rural Grafton, and Matthew and Gregory Kruger, both of rural Kensett and one great- grandson, Quinlan Stewart. He is also survived by four brothers, Rev.Harold Kruger and his wife, Jacqueline, of Genesco, NY, Edward Kruger and his wife, Maxine, of Grafton, Rev. Robert Kruger of Rock Island, IL, and Allen Kruger and Shirley of Bolivar, MO, six sisters, Myrtle Davis and her husband, James of Mason City, Gladys Grant of Osage, Dora Runyon and her husband, David, of Council Bluffs, Ruth Erdmann and her husband, Philip and Clarice Wilde and her husband, Robert, all of Osage, and Deanna Sande and her husband, Gary, of St Paul, MN, one sister-in-law, Rose Marie Kruger of Northwood and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Eugene Kruger, an infant brother, Richard Kruger, his parents, and a brother, Harvey Kruger.
