OBITUARY: Dorothy L. Collins Larson, Worth County, Iowa [ Mitchell County Press online - May 23, 2001 www.mcpress.com ] Dorothy L. Larson Funeral services were held Saturday, May 19, 2001 at Deer Creek Lutheran Church, Carpenter, for Dorothy L. Larson, age 90, of St. Ansgar. Rev. Kathy Larson officiated. Burial was in the Deer Creek Lutheran Cemetery, Carpenter. She died Tuesday, May 15, 2001 at Mitchell County Regional Health Center, Osage. Dorothy was born Jan. 1, 1911 to Earnest and Thea (Hermanson) Collins in Deer Creek Township, Worth County, Iowa. She was baptized in March of 1911 at Deer Creek Lutheran Church by Rev. M.E. Waldeland. When she was six months old, they moved to a homestead near Devon, MT. They lived there seven years moving back to Northwood, Iowa for one year, then moving to a farm on the state line north of Meltonville. She attended school in Otranto, and graduated from Otranto High School there with honors in 1929. Her classmates remained very dear to her. She was confirmed in 1926 by the Rev. O.M. Langehough in the Lutheran Church in Lyle, MN. She married Leonard R. Larson on Feb. 5, 1930 in her parents home performed by Rev. A.C. Korsrud, pastor of London, MN church. They farmed on the A.Z. VanCamp farm for eight years, then moved to Carpenter. She was active in her husband's Phillips 66 Oil business and custom truck box building. She was city clerk of Carpenter for 34 years and active in other community organizations. In 1982 and again in 1995, she received Merit awards from the Community Club for her dedicated contributions. She was a charter member of Friendship Club and a faithful member of Deer Creek Lutheran Church, Carpenter. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband Leonard; her only sister Amy Kruse; one granddaughter Marsha Larson; and one grandson Daniel Davis. Those that survive her include her son Roger and his wife Beverly of Swaledale, daughter Carolyn and husband, Dennis Davis of Kensett; nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
