OBITUARY: Mayme Ida (Dralla) Orvedal, Mitchell County, Iowa Mayme Ida Dralla Orvedal #1 of 2 [Mitchell County Press-News, online, www.mcpress.com, Posted Oct 16, 2002] Mayme Overdal Funeral services are pending at First Lutheran Church, Northwood, for Mayme Overdal, age 89, of Northwood. She died Monday, October 14, 2002 at the Hospice Center, Mason City. Local survivors include her daughter, Gertie Goodale of Osage; grandchildren, Dawn Adams of Osage, Daisy Huffman of Garner, Dale Goodale, Jr., Osage, David Goodale, Klemme and Dana Kiefer of Marble Rock. A complete obituary will appear in next week's Press News. #2 of 2 [Mitchell County Press-News, online, www.mcpress.com, Posted Oct 23, 2002] Mayme Ida Orvedal Mayme Ida Orvedal, 89, of Northwood, died Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2002, at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City. Funeral services were held Friday, Oct. 18, 2002, at the First Lutheran Church in Northwood, with Reverend Paul Holmer and Reverend Allan Stoa officiating. Burial was in the South Shell Rock Cemetery in Northwood. Conner Colonial Chapel of Northwood was in charge of the arrangements. Mayme Ida Orvedal was born on April 30, 1913 in Calamus, IA, the daughter of John and Cora (Bousselot) Dralla. She was baptized on June 1, 1913, in the German Evangelical Lutheran Church in Clinton County and reaffirmed the faith of her baptism through confirmation in the Lutheran faith. She attended and received her education in the Northwood Community Schools, graduating from Northwood High School in 1932. She was united in marriage to John Orvedal on Feb. 26, 1940, in Northwood. He preceded her in death on June 9, 1964. After their marriage together they farmed in the Northwood area. Mayme worked as a nurse's aid for many years at the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood until her retirement. After her retirement she did volunteer work in the community and the church. She enjoyed crocheting, embroidering, sewing, being in 4-H, flowers, plants, music and playing the piano. She was an active member of First Lutheran Church, the altar guild, and church circles in Northwood. Left to cherish her memory are her children and their families--daughter Gertie May Goodale and husband Dale, of Osage, and their children, Daisy Huffman of Garner, Dale Goodale, Jr. of Osage, Dawn Adams and husband Michael of Osage, Dana Kiefer and husband Earl of Marble Rock, and David Goodale and wife Tami of Klemme; daughter Carolyn Thayer and husband Richard of Jewell, Charlene Bergan and husband Patrick of Kansas City, KS, James Thayer of Washington, D.C., Debra Quackenbush and husband Alan of Aurora CO., and Shellie Johnson and husband Alan of Story City, son, John Orvedal and wife Judy of Blue Earth, MN, and their children, Valerie Boark and husband John of Grafton, and Jeffrey Orvedal and wife Gayle of Las Vegas, NV; son, Dennis Orvedal and wife Helen of Northwood and their children, Annette Stein and husband Edward of Northwood, Jody Orvedal of Northwood, and Stacie Dingman and husband Dan of Mason City; 22 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Virginia Dralla of Hanlontown, and Hazel Shaw of Fargo, ND; as well as many nieces and nephews, as well as other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband John, two grandchildren who died in infancy, two brothers, Leo and Lloyd Dralla, and two sisters who died in infancy.
