OBITUARY: Leona Marguerite Severson Kenison 1926-2002, Worth Co., Iowa Leona Marguerite Kenison [The Northwood Anchor -- November 19, 2002 -- www.northwoodanchor.com] Leona Marguerite Kenison, 76, of Northwood, died, Monday, Nov. 11, 2002, at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City. Funeral services were Friday at the First Lutheran Church in Northwood, with Rev. Paul Holmer and Rev. Allan Stoa officiating. Burial was in the Sunset Rest Cemetery in Northwood. Conner Colonial Chapel, Northwood, was in charge of arrangements. Leona Marguerite Kenison was born on Jan. 16, 1926, in Northwood, the daughter of Clarence and Julia (Tue) Severson. She was baptized and reaffirmed the faith of her baptism through confirmation in the Shell Rock Lutheran Church in Northwood. She attended and received her education in the Northwood community school system, graduating from Northwood High School in 1944. Leona also attended and received her teaching certificate from a teachers college in Cedar Falls. She married Keith Matthew Kenison on April 1, 1945, at the Shell Rock Lutheran Church in Northwood. He preceded her in death on Dec. 18, 2000. After their marriage Leona taught for a short time in a rural country school near Northwood. Leona also was a cook at the Paramount Restaurant, Midway Cafe, both in Northwood, Northwood Country Club, and for many years was the school lunch cook for the Northwood community schools, and most recently was employed at Sue's Corner Post Restaurant in Northwood until her death. She enjoyed embroidering, cooking, was very active in two church circles and the Golden Tones Choir at First Lutheran Church in Northwood, but her great love and enjoyment was her family and many friends. Leona's church was very important to her and had served on many church groups within the church and also was a former church council member, and a member of First Lutheran Church in Northwood, and was also active in TOPS group for several years in Northwood. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Aljean Smith and her husband Lloyd of Montrose, IA, Linda Lindsay and her husband Gary of Marion, IA, Larry Kenison and his wife Liz of Northwood, and Brian Kenison and his wife Connie of Kensett; nine grandchildren, Todd Smith and his wife Diane of West Point, IA, Darin Smith of Bloomington, IL, Julie Teberg and her husband Jon of Rancho Santa Margarita, CA, Nathan Lindsay of Iowa City, Kris Kenison of Winona, MN, Jordan Kenison of Kensett, Lindsey Kenison of Cedar Falls, Christine Carlson and special friend Mark of Northwood, and Nicole Cole and her husband Michael of Grafton; four great-grandchildren, Ryan Snaadt of West Point, IA, Rochelle Carlson and Allyson Carl-son both of Northwood, and Mitchell Cole of Grafton; a sister-in-law, Doris Steiger of Mason City; many nieces and nephews; as well as other relatives and friends. Besides her husband Keith, she was also preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Crystal Nelson, a brother, Leighton Severson, a nephew, Lee Severson, a niece, Catherine Meyer, and a brother-in-law, Glennis Steiger.
