OBITUARY: Mildred Willand Sorbo (1910-2001), Worth County, Iowa [Mitchell County Press online - www.mcpress.com - May 15, 2001 ] Mildred Willand Sorbo (1910-2001) Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 19, 2001 at 10 am at Silver Lake Lutheran Church, rural Northwood, for Mrs. Gilman (Mildred) Sorbo. Pastors Steve Smith and Al Stoa will officiate and burial will be in the Silver Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 pm on Friday, May 18 at Schroeder and Sites Funeral Home, Northwood. She died Sunday, May 13, 2001 at the Stacyville Nursing Home. Mrs. Sorbo, the former Mildred Willand, was born July 12, 1910 in Worth County the daughter of Wilhelm and Clara (Calgaard) Willand. On June 30, 1934 she married Gilman Sorbo at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They spent their early married years near Manly and rural Northwood. They then made their permanent home in the rural Silver Lake area, Northwood. Finally, they moved to the Maple Court Apartments in Northwood where Mildred enjoyed her last seven years. Mildred was an active member of the Silver Lake Parish until the time of her death. She was an avid gardener, seamstress, and enjoyed cooking, baking, crossword puzzles and playing cards. For many years, she was employed by the St. Johns Lutheran Retirement Home in Albert Lea, MN. Preceding her in death were her husband; an infant son; three brothers, Walter Willand, Orin and Stanley Willand; four brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law. Those that survive her include her daughter, Marcia Klapperich and her husband Norman of Stacyville; three grandchildren, Nicole Klapperich of Kansas City, MO, Ryan Klapperich and his wife Bridget of Wichita, KS and Michael Klapperich, a student at Iowa State University, Ames; and one great-grandson, Colin Klapperich of Wichita, KS; three sisters, Opal Solomonson and husband, John, of Lake Mills, Esther Bodde of Hampton and Myrtle Tapps of Mason City; one brother, Clarence Willand and wife, Fern, of Joice; four sisters-in-law, Ellnora Willand of Northwood, Carol Willand of Joice, Dorothy Towne and her husband, Earl of Emmons, MN and Nina Sorbo of Estherville.
