OBITUARY: Virginia Hanson, 1928-2003, Worth Co., Iowa

Virginia Hanson
Virginia Hanson, 75, Northwood, Iowa, died Sunday Nov 2, 2003 at the
Lutheran Retirement Home, Northwood.
Funeral service will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. Nov. 5, 2003 at First
Lutheran Church, Northwood, with Rev. Paul Holmer officiating.
Interment will be in London Deer Creek Cemetery, rural Northwood.
Conner Colonial Chapel, Northwood, is in charge of arrangements.
Virginia was born March 25, 1928 in Polo, Illinois, the daughter of George
and Eva (Horton) Albright. Virginia's mother died when she was nine
years old so she then lived with her grandmother, while she attended
grade school in Polo. When she got to high school she moved in with
her sister, Ruth in Mount Morris, Illinois, and attended and graduated
from Mount Morris High School. She took nurse's training at Copley
Hospital in Aurora, Illinois, and became a registered nurse. During
nurse's training, she became a big Chicago Cubs fan.
Virginia met Jim Hanson while she was caring for his father in the
hospital in Aurora. Virginia and Jim were married June 7, 1952 at
the farm home of her sister in Oregon, Illinois.
Virginia was a three to eleven nursing supervisor at Park Memorial
Hospital in Mason City for many years and later worked as a recovery
nurse at North Iowa Hospital.
Virginia enjoyed bowling and was on the V.F.W. Auxiliary bowling team.
She enjoyed music and cats. She always had a garden and did a lot of
canning and freezing. She was known for her Grandma Ginny's Red Pickles
and her famous pumpkin bars. Her grandchildren often called her "Grandma
Choo-Choo", because they lived near the train tracks.
Virginia is a member of First Lutheran Church, Northwood.
Virginia is survived by her husband Jim, Northwood; six children Greg
Hanson and his wife Vickie, Northwood, Jim Hanson and his wife Kathy,
Northwood, Steve Hanson and his wife Connie, Nampa, Idaho, Harlan Hanson
and his wife Marilyn, West Des Moines, Scott Hanson, Northwood, and
Ruth Hanson and her husband Jim, Northwood; 16 grandchildren; one sister
Ruth Hughes, Oregon, Illinois and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
