OBITUARY: Doris Elaine (Brown) Hudson, 1922-2003, Worth Co., Iowa [Northwood Anchor online - Posted June 25, 2003] (Copyrighted) Doris Elaine (Brown) Hudson Doris Elaine (Brown) Hudson, age 81, of Northwood, IA died Saturday, June 21, 2003, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the First Lutheran Church, Northwood, with Rev. Allan Stoa officiating. Internment will take place at the Sunset Rest Cemetery, Northwood. The visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. at the Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, Highway 65 South, Northwood. Doris was born in Northwood, IA on March 21, 1922 to Irvin and Thea (Throne) Brown. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a member of First Lutheran Church and the Lydia circle of the church. She graduated from Northwood High School in 1940. Doris Elaine Brown married William Woodrow (Woody) Hudson on Sept. 20, 1945 in Hot Springs, Arkansas. They lived in Northwood during their married life. Doris was a life member of VFW Ladies Auxiliary and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Throughout her adult life she was very active in the local VFW, enjoying the companionship of good friends and the many activities sponsored by the VFW. She was well known as a wonderful cook and enjoyed bowling in a women's league for many years, retiring from the Auditor's office in 1987. She kept in touch with her many friends there through monthly luncheons as long as she was able. Most important in Doris' life were her children, grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. Left to cherish her memory are a daughter, Ann Sletten, and her husband Mervin, of Mason City, two sons, Don Hudson and his wife, Kim, of The Colony, TX, and John Hudson, of Waxahatchie, TX; five grandchildren, Brooke Kelsey and her husband Harland, of Beaverton, OR, Kristi Sletten and her special friend, Michael Myers, and Katie Sletten of Mason City, Jamie Stumo and her special friend David Walthall, and Kevin Hudson, of The Colony, Texas; two great-grandchildren, Skylar Kelsey and McKenzie Myers; a brother, Lynn Brown and his wife Jan, of Bloomington, IL; a sister-in-law, Maurine Hudson, of Marshall, MN; a step-son, Dan Hudson and wife Janet, of Sioux Falls, SD, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Woody Hudson, her parents, and an infant son David.
