OBITUARY: Opal Suzanne (Butler) Tenold, 1922-2003, Worth County, Iowa [Northwood Anchor online - www.northwoodanchor.com - Posted May 21, 2003] Opal Suzanne Tenold Opal Suzanne Tenold, 80, of Northwood, died Friday, May 16, 2003, at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City. Memorial services were held Tuesday, May 20, 2003, at the First Lutheran Church, Northwood, with Reverend Paul Holmer and Reverend Allan Stoa officiating. Inurnment was in the Sunset Rest Cemetery in Northwood. According to her wishes her body was cremated. Opal Suzanne Tenold was born on June 20, 1922, in rural Worth County, near Northwood, the daughter of Lars and Anna (Numedahl) Butler. Opal's mother died when she was two and she spent most of her childhood years with her aunt and uncle Lena and Lewis Turvold. She attended and received her education in the Northwood school system, graduating from Northwood High School. She was united in marriage to Reuben Tenold on Sept. 30, 1941, in Northwood. He preceded her in death on April 27, 1990. After their marriage together they farmed in rural Worth County. Opal also worked for the Worth County Home Health and Carroll George Inc. in Northwood. Opal enjoyed antique collecting, gardening, flowers, crossword puzzles, and embroidering, but her great love and enjoyment was her family, neighbors and friends. Opal was a member and very active at First Lutheran Church, the Rachel Circle as well as other church groups and activities within the church. She was also a member of the New Century Club, charter member of the 3M Circle, VFW ladies Auxiliary, and was a former girls 4-H leader. Left to cherish her memory are her two sons, David Tenold and his wife Marge of Northwood, and Lynn Tenold and his wife Mindy of Northwood; 6 grandchildren, Danny Tenold and Suzie Tenold, Brenda Moretz and her husband Scott, Allix Tenold, Briar Tenold, Mike and Todd Brunsvold; 4 great-grandchildren, Kelsey and Tiarra Tenold, and Colton and Casson Moretz; two sisters, Mildred Harris and Arlene Tenold both of Northwood; a special friend, Jack Van Horn of Northwood; many nieces and nephews as well as other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lars and Anna Butler and Lena and Lewis Turvold; her husband, Reuben, two sons, Robert and Dennis Tenold; a daughter-in-law, Cheryl Tenold, a sister, Evelyn Helgeson; three brother- in-laws, Marvin Tenold, Hendlynn Helgeson and Don Harris; and a sister-in- law, Clarice Tenold.
