OBITUARY: Nels Simmons, 1867-1928, Worth County, Iowa Nels Simmons Nels Simmons died November 28, 1928 of cancer of the stomach. He was born in Vang, Valdres, Norway on March 15, 1867. His father was a tailor in the old country and he came to America with his wife and four children. Nels was three years of age when he came to Silver Lake Twp. He purchased his father's farm in 1900. The following year he married Gertrude Sanvik of Silver Lake Twp. His parents made their home with them. His father died in 1904 and his mother in 1910. Mr. and Mrs. Simmons moved to town a year ago to live with Mrs. Simmons' father, L.E. Sanvik. Last July they purchased a ten acre farm from R.E. Ferris in Bristol Twp. He was a trustee in the Silver Lake Church many years, member of the Grieg Norwegian choir during their organization and president of the Hartland Creamery Assn., Twp. trustee many years and director of the Emmons Telelphone Co. A brother of Mr. Simmons, John, rents the Simmons place in Bristol Twp. The funeral was held at the Silver Lake Church, with the Rev. Fosness in charge.
