OBITUARY: Ruth Marie Elizabeth (Strombom) McMullin, 1906-2003, Worth Co., IA [Northwood anchor online -- posted July 16, 2003] Ruth Marie Elizabeth McMullin Ruth Marie Elizabeth McMullin, 96, of Grinnell, formerly of Hanlontown, died Tuesday, July 8, 2003, at the St. Francis Manor in Grinnell. Funeral services were Saturday at the Grace Lutheran Church in Hanlontown with Pastor Kris Snyder officiating. Burial was in the Brush Point Cemetery, rural Hanlontown. Ruth Marie Elizabeth McMullin was born on Dec. 23, 1906, in DeKalb, IL, the daughter of Axel and Caroline (Bauer) Strombom. She attended and graduated from Hanlontown High School, and also attended Cedar Falls Teachers College. After completing her schooling she taught school west of Kensett for one year. She married Norvel McMullin on Aug. 6, 1927, in Mason City. He preceded her in death on Aug. 30, 1976. In 1928, Ruth and Norvel moved to Hanlontown where she loved and cared for her family. She enjoyed flowers and gardening but her great love and enjoyment was her church and family. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, church circle, Sunday school teacher, and the Blossom Belles Garden Club all in Hanlontown. Left to cherish her memory are her two sons, Richard McMullin and his wife Priscilla of Overland Park, Kansas, and Roger McMullin and his wife Mary of Grinnell, Iowa; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; as well as other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant daughter, Linda Faye, a brother, Harold Strombom, and three sisters, Hortense Smith, Mildred Adams, and Helen Oswald.
