OBITUARY: Arnold Ingvald Thompson, 1915-2003, Worth Co., Iowa [ Northwood Anchor online - August 20, 2003 ] Arnold Ingvald Thompson Arnold Ingvald Thompson, 87, of rural Northwood, died Monday, Aug. 18, 2003, at the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood where he had been a resident since February of this year. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, 2003, at the First Lutheran Church, 309 9th Street North, Northwood, with Rev. Paul Holmer officiating. Burial will be in the Sunset Rest Cemetery in Northwood. The family of Arnold Ingvald Thompson has requested that memorial contributions be made to the Northwood Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Unit in his memory. Arnold Ingvald Thompson was born on Aug. 29, 1915, in rural Silver Lake Township, rural Northwood, the son of Jewell Martin and Inger (Haugerud) Thompson. He was baptized in the Lutheran faith at Silver Lake Lutheran Church, rural Northwood, and reaffirmed the faith of his baptism through confirmation at the Shell Rock Lutheran Church, rural Northwood. Arnold farmed with his father on the home farm west of Northwood until his father's death in 1948. He cared for his mother the last several years of her life until she died in 1966. After his father's death he continued to farm the family farm until his retirement in 1978. Arnold loved being outdoors, taking care of his land, his dog Pepper, and enjoyed entertaining those close to him on his harmonica. He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Northwood. Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Berneice Branstad of Northwood; two brothers, Jewell O. Thompson and his wife Lillian of Albert Lea, MN, and Clifford Thompson and his wife Harriet of Scottsdale, AZ; two special nephews, Judean "Geno" Thompson and Gary Thompson of Albert Lea, MN, many other nieces and nephews, friends and longtime neighbors and extended family of Branstad's, and a special friend Dennis Nagle of Northwood.
