Ruth died May 20, 2003 from the debilitating effects of Hepatitis C, the problems of rejection following a liver transplant and a faulty heart valve which had taken a heavy toll on Ruth's health and reduced the quality of her life. Conner Colonial Chapel, 1008-1st Ave. South, Northwood, is in charge of the arrangements. Ruth Diane (Whitcome) Zamora was born on May 11, 1938, the daughter of Ellsworth and Alice (Anderson) Whitcome, in Northwood. She attended and received her education in Northwood School system, graduating from Northwood High School in 1956. She became a member of the helping professions, graduating as a nurse from St. Mary's School of Nursing in Rochester, MN. She began her nursing career in Des Moines, and then continued nursing in San Antonio, TX. She moved to California as a Hospital Administrator. After several years, she took positions in administration in West Monroe and New Orleans, LA. She was especially proud of her work at her last position as the administrator at a specialty hospital in New Orleans. Ruth had to leave that position when she discovered that she had Hepatitis "C" and was put on the waiting list for a liver transplant. Her successful transplant took place on Christmas Eve 2000. Ruth loved her family and her friends. She loved the outdoors especially the time she spent fishing and visiting in the area of Voyageurs National Park in Northern Minnesota where she vacationed for many years. Left to cherish her memory is a devoted and loving daughter, Shelle Kitch and her husband Jeff of New Orleans, LA, two grandchildren, Alex and Amanda Kitch; her brothers, Roger Whitcome and his wife Lola of Grundy Center, IA, and Charles Whitcome and his wife Carol of International Falls, MN, two nephews, Scott and Michael Whitcome; two nieces, Julie Rees and Alison Noble; as well as other relatives and many friends. Her parents, Ellsworth and Alice Whitcome, preceded her in death.
