OBITUARY: Alden "Aldy" Willis Asbjornson; 1926-2004; Worth Co., Iowa [Adapted from Northwood Anchor online, posted Feb 11, 2004] Alden "Aldy" Willis Asbjornson Alden "Aldy" Willis Asbjornson, 77, of Kensett, Iowa, died Sunday, Feb. 8, 2004, at the Manly Nursing & Rehab Center, Manly, Iowa. Funeral services were held Thursday, Feb. 12, at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Kensett, with Rev. Allan Stoa officiating. Visitation was Wednesday at the Conner Colonial Chapel, 1008 First Ave. South, Northwood, Iowa, and one hour prior to service time on Thursday at the church. Following the services his body will be cremated with inurnment at a later date in the Elk Creek Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Kensett. The family of Alden Willis Asbjornson has requested that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of North Iowa or to the Manly Nursing & Rehab Center in his memory. Aldy Asbjornson was born on April 8, 1926, in rural Kensett, the son of Arvell and Lillie (Larson) Asbjornson. He was baptized and reaffirmed the faith of his baptism through confirmation in the Elk Creek Lutheran Church, rural Kensett, and later became a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church in Kensett. He attended and received his schooling in the rural schools near Kensett. After completing his schooling he farmed with his parents on the family farm near Kensett. He married Doris Forde on Dec. 23, 1948, in Mason City. Aldy was a self-employed grain truck driver hauling grain for various farmers in the Worth County area. He also worked for Davey & Moen Construction and Henkel Construction Company in Mason City and retired from construction due to ill health. After his retirement he worked for the Worth County Landfill. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting, collecting various things, riding motorcycles, gardening, and taking his dogs for a ride, but his great love and enjoyment was his family and grandchildren. He was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church in Kensett, the Kensett Volunteer Fire Department, and the Local Laborer Union. Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Doris Asbjornson of Kensett; his children, Pam Patterson of Clear Lake, Paula True of Clear Lake, and Penny Miranda of Northwood; seven grandchildren, Brandi Patterson and her fiancée Kris Paulson of Mason City, Jason True of Clear Lake, Travis Patterson and his fiance Brook Knowlton of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Jeremy True and his friend, Breanna Knowles of Sheffield, Jamee Hove of Northwood, Brent Asbjornson of Mobil, Alabama, and Misty Miranda of Northwood, two great-grandchildren, Hudsen Simmer and Tyler Patterson; a special cousins, Ina Berg LaDouceur of Northwood, and a cousin, Vince Jorgenson of Clear Lake; as well as other relatives and friends.
