OBITUARY: Daryl Emerson McCready, 1929-2004, Worth Co., Iowa

                       Daryl Emerson McCready

Daryl Emerson McCready, 75, passed away at Mercy Medical Center North
Iowa in Mason City, Iowa, Thursday, July 8, 2004 on his daughter's
birthday. Funeral services were held on Monday, July 12, 2004 at
Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Grafton, Iowa with Rev. Wayne Ellingson
officiating.  Burial was in the Grafton Cemetery.

Daryl was born April 18, 1929, to Anna (Thon) and Blair McCready. He
attended school in Plymouth, Iowa, for 11 years and graduated from
Kensett High School in 1947, where he faithfully attended his reunions.

He married Joyce Bork at Deer Creek Lutheran Church, Carpenter, on
November 27, 1949, and moved to their 80 acre homestead in Bolan
which became a cenntennial farm which he was proud of. He made many
improvements and was happy to live to see the new grove he planted
and cared for. Daryl farmed with his father and brother until renting
their land out in later years. His pride and joy were his
7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. 

In past years he enjoyed restoring old gas engines and 57 Chevys,
and making ornamental antique lawn decorations. He and Joyce collected
glass wares, sugar shakers, cruets and loved the thrill of the hunt.
His passion was riding his Honda Gold Wing which he rode more miles
in a year than the car. (Quite a feat in his golden years.) It earned
him the name Go-Go by his son and made him the envy of his son-in-law
and sidekick on their many road trips. The last trip being as recent
as a week ago which was a trip to the Black Hills and surrounding area.

He enjoyed sharing his garden produce with others, probably giving
away more than he kept for themselves. He had a love of compiling
his family history in photo albums and writing captions to leave
for future generations.

He was politically correct to say the least in his constant striving
to better this fair land. He wrote many letters to the editor and say
"It needed saying."  Their beautiful yard was almost a full time job
in itself. His claim to fame was the whole town of Bolan appearing
on the David Letterman show in 1989.

He is survived by his wife Joyce of 54 years; three children, Cheryl
(husband John) Thompson of Urbandale, Iowa, David (wife Tammie) of
Mason City, and Steve at home; granddaughters (twins) Jennifer
Thelen (Rob) and Michelle Brunk (Andy), Angie Thompson and Shannon
Thompson and Jessie McCready; and grandsons Jamie and Jeramie
McCready; great granddaughters Bryant and Miranda Thelen and
great-grandson Sterling Brunk.

He was preceded in death by his parents Anna and Blair McCready,
his brother Don, his father and mother-in-law Ed and Hattie Bork
and daughter-in-law Kathie McCready.

He was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Grafton and he
designed his own tombstone in awaiting anticipation of his heavenly
home. Daryl had that special way of meeting and greeting one and
all. A true people person through and through. He will be making
friends in heaven.
