OBITUARY: Rosalie (Thorne) Mellem, 1926-2004, Worth Co., Iowa [Based on an obituary in the Northwood Anchor online - Aug. 4, 2004] Rosalie Thorne Mellem Rosalie Thorne Mellem, 77, of Louisville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 24, 2004, at Baptist Hospital East. She was born Oct. 13, 1926, in Augusta, Georgia, the daughter of Perley Lenwood Thorne and Kathryn Mallard Thorne. She grew up and attended schools in Westchester County, New York, and graduated from Hood College with a B.A. in home economics. She worked in New York City as a writer and associate editor of American Home magazine. In 1952, she moved to Louisville, where she joined General Electric as a writer in the advertising and publicity department, until her marriage. She was a member of Christ Church United Methodist, the Homemakers Club, the Hurstbourne Country Club and The Little Club of Gulf Stream, Florida. Survivors include: her devoted husband of 51 years, Lewis R. Mellem; two children, Carolyn Willi and her husband, Dr. Francis Willi, of Winchester, Virgina, and L. Robert Mellem and his wife, Sharon Kutz-Mellem; a brother, William A. Thorne and his wife, Harriette, of Darien, Connecticut; four grandchildren: Katie and Matthew Willi, and Amanda and Nathan Scharf; and numerous loving family members and friends. A memorial service was held on July 28, 2004, at Pearson's, 149 Breckenridge Lane, Louisville, Kentucky. Burial will be private in Cave Hill Cemetery. Copyright 2004, K. Kittleson
