OBITUARY: Nels Oyer, 1861-1942, Worth Co., Iowa Nels Oyer Nels Oyer (81) Emmons, died Thursday (Graphic 9-2--1942). The funeral was held at Silver Lake with the Rev. Casper T. Fjelstud in charge. He is survived by his wife; 9 children, 31 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was the son of Helge and Marit Oyer and was born in Valdris, Norway, on July 2, 1861. He was baptized in Norway and came to America with his parents where he grew to manhood. He was confirmed in the Lutheran faith, and came to Worth Co., Iowa, with his mother in 1883. His father died while the family was living in Wisconsin. He married Inger Troe in 1892. He lived over 50 years on the same farm in Worth Co., until his death on August 27, 1942. He died of kidney poisoning. He is survived by his wife and 9 children. One child, Burns, died in 1919. He is survived by his children: Mrs. Floyd Henderson, Charles City; Norris, Emmons; Mrs. Hamlin (Bertha) Nordahl, Seattle, Washington; Mrs. Leo (Laura) Halvorson, Emmons; Mrs. Leonard (Minnie) Brua, Albert Lea; Mrs. Wilfred (Sara) Nordah, White Bear Lake; Mrs. Lawrence (Nellie) Hahn, Forest City; Melvin Oyer in U.S. Army; Tennys, Emmons; 31 living grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
