OBITUARY: Diana (Mrs. Edwin) Pike, 1839-1921, Worth County, Iowa ----------------------------------------------------------------------- #1 of 2 items Mrs. Edwin Pike, of Deer Creek, Called Friday. ...homes in the vicinity of Meltonville have been saddened during the past week by the visit of the inevitable, and our Meltonville correspondant has kindly furnished us with short sketches as follows: Mrs. Edwin Pike Mrs. Edwin Pike passed away Friday evening after an illness of long duration. Everything that was possible to human hands was done to relieve her but she was unable to overcome the ravages of the disease. Mrs. Pike will not only be missed by her family, but nearly as much by her neighbors, whom she was ever ready to help in case of sickness or trouble. In the early days, before people thought of obtaining trained nurses, Grandma Pike was called on and cheerfully responded to nurse the sick back to health, and there was scarcely a home in the early days in this vicinity where she had not helped care for some of the family who were sick. She will be absent but not forgotten by her relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at the home and church at Meltonville and the remains taken to the Ogden cemetery and laid at rest beside those of her husband who had preceded her by two years. There will be a complete obituary in next week's Anchor. --------------------------------------------------------------- #2 of 2 items Mrs. Diana Pike Diana Pike was born November 9, 1839 at Sidmouth, England, the daughter of John and Maria (Ware) Sumption, and died at the home of her son, Fred, September 23, 1921, at the age of 82 years, 10 months and 14 days.
