OBITUARY: Edwin Pike, 1836-1919, Worth County, Iowa [ #1 NEWS ITEM: ] DEATH CAUSED BY STROKE Aged Deer Creek Man Passed Away After Short Illness Last Thursday Morning. Edwin Pike The Meltonville community was shocked and saddened last Thursday when word passed out that their old friend and neighbor, Edwin Pike, had passed away, as he had been in his usual health. He arose on the morning before his death and ate a hearty breakfast. He later went out to his work shop where he was found fifteen minutes later, paralyzed. Dr. Hewitt was summoned immediately and everything that medical aid and the care of his loving wife and children could do was done. Death came peacefully at 2:15 a.m. Thursday. His life was well spent. He had the good will and high regard of all with whom he came in contact. He had been loyal in matters of citizenship, thoroughly reliable in business affairs and upright and honorable at all times and in every situation. [ #2 OBITUARY PROPER: ] Edwin Pike Edwin Pike was born January 24th, 1836, at Stockland, England, the son of John and Jemima (Turner) Pike, and died at his home after a short illness, October 23d, 1919, at the age of 83 years, 8 months and 27 days. He was baptized and confirmed in the Episcopal church. On April 10th, 1859, he was united in marriage to Diana Sumption of Stockland, who is left to mourn his loss. To this happy union were born seven girls and five boys, namely: Mrs. Wm. Turner, of Brewster, Nebr.; Mrs. Mary Ogden, of St. Ansgar, Iowa; Florence Eva, who passed away at the age of 13 months; Albert E. and Mrs. Wm. McDermott, also deceased; Fred G., of Meltonville; Mrs. John Pace, of Austin, Minn.; Mrs. Joseph Wynn, deceased; William E., of Austin; Edwin R. and Walter G., of Meltonville; and Mrs. Melvin Finch, of Meltonville. Besides these relatives he leaves 49 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren. Edwin Pike spend his boyhood days in England and acquired his education in the public schools. He afterward learned the trade of brick laying and was employed in that way until he came to the United States in 1870 to his present home. Funeral services were conducted at the house at two p.m. Saturday, Rev. Galbraith officiating.
