Her father was the first white child born in Worth county. She grew up in this area, graduated from Northwood high school in 1914 and State Teachers college, Cedar Falls, in 1920. She taught in the schools of Worth county and at Manly and Mason City. In 1926 she went to Spokane, Wash., where she taught in the public schools for many years, as a regular teacher, as a substitute during her mar-riage and later again as a regular teacher. She was married to Storey Buck, who was the mining editor of the Spokane Daily Chronicle until his death in 1953. Mrs. Buck was a member of the Central Lutheran church, the Retired Teachers Association, the Lutheran Service Volunteer Group, the Association of University Women, was a life honorary member of the Northwest Mining Association and an honorary member of the Washington County Parents and Teachers. She is survived by two nieces, Mrs. Ruth Ehmann, Yugoslavia, Mrs. Richard Carrier, Maryland, two nephews, Horace Mellem, Michigan; George Hauge, Washington, D.C. She was the sister of the late Gaylord and Ralph Mellem and Mrs. Nettie Hauge.
