Funeral services were held Friday, April 20, at Deer Creek Lutheran Church in Carpenter with the Rev. Lance Kittleson officiating. Burial was in the St. Ansgar Cemetery in St. Ansgar. Laurel Gordon was born on March 1, 1931, in rural Northwood, the son of M. Luellyn and Ada (Pike) Gordon. He attended the Otranto public schools. Laurel worked for Christian and Pete Hanson for a few years. He also drove truck for Wallace Coleman and LR Falk. Laurel served his country during the Korean War. He joined the army and was sent overseas, where he faced active combat in Korea. He was united in marriage to Beverly Thistlewaite Lee on November 11, 1960, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Laurel later adopted her son Kenneth. After his marriage he farmed for himself for the rest of his life. He also drove trucks in later years instead of milking cows. Throughout his life he enjoyed visiting with people and helping them whenever he could. He loved driving on the road. He was a lifelong member of Deer Creek Lutheran Church, Carpenter. Left to cherish his memory are his brother, Vernon (Agnes) Gordon of Northwood, sister-in-laws Jean Langbehn of Rochester, Betty Hinders of Albert Lea, and Nancy Scholljigerdes of Owattona, several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Dorothy (stillborn), his wife, son, mother-in-law, and a brother-in-law.
