Walker Patton, daughter of Susan and John Walker, was born Oct. 17th, 1874 at La Porte City Iowa, and passed away at her home in Rowan, Iowa Nov. 15th, 1942, being thus 68 years and 28 days of age. She moved with her parents to Kansas in 1880 where her mother died July 30th, 1885. She returned to Iowa in 1888 and to Rowan in 1889. She was united to Charles D. Burger Sept. 6th, 1920. Mr. Burger passed away in Dec. 1929. On Feb. 15th, 1933, she was united in marriage to Joseph Patton. At an early age she united with the United Brethren Church, and a little later became a member of the Rowan Congregational Church, one of its very earliest members. She has been a faithful member of our church ever since. She is survived by her husband, Joseph Patton, one sister, Mrs. Hugh Whitten of Rowan, an aged step-mother, Mrs. John Walker, one half-brother and sister, Glen and Verna Walker, all of Oswego, Kans., twenty nieces and nephews and 47 grand-nieces and nephews and a great host of friends who have become strongly attached to her kind and noble personality. Never having had any children of her own, all nieces and nephews were held unusually close. For over twenty years the relatives have gathered for Thanksgiving Dinner with Aunt Eva. She has been in poor health for some time. Last May she was taken to Rochester, Minn. where she underwent a major operation. All that the doctors and medical skill could do proved of no avail, for the dreaded cancer had gained control. She greatly appreciated her loved ones and friends and enjoyed having them around her in her illness. It is also a beautiful testimony to the great love they bore her, that so many were so constantly with her during these last trying weeks. Her husband and sister together with these relatives rendered her a most constant and beautiful service which was a joy for even those outside the family to look upon. Even death may be beautiful with such loving service and fellowship so close and constantly at hand. The funeral service was held at the congregational Church, Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 18th at 2 P.M. The service was conducted by the Paston, Rev. R.W. Roberts, who preached the sermon and prayer was offered by Rev. Bottom of the M.E. Church. -------------------
