	JOHN S. WALKER

John S. Walker dies.  John S. Walker was born in Owen County, Indiana, Sept 4, 1850 and 
passed away at his home in Oswege, Kansas, Friday morning, Feb.10, 1928 aged 77 years 
and 6 days.
	At the age of five he moved with his parents to Boone County, Iowa, later to 
Laport City, Iowa, where on Sept. 24, 188871, he was untied in marriage to Miss Susan 
L. Bates of DeSoto, Wis.  To this union two sons and three daughters were born, the 
oldest son being killed by lightning when small.  Then with his family and aged parents, 
he moved in 1880 to Valley Falls, Kansas, where his parents died.
	In 1882 he moved to Ellsworth County, Kansas where his wife died on July 30, 1885.  
On Nov. 25, 1886, he was married to Amanda J. Haskins of Little River, Kansas by Bishop 
E.B. Kephart.  To this union two sons and three daughters were born, three dying in infancy.  
In 1888 he returned to LaPort City, Iowa, and later to Wright county, Iowa where he remained 
twelve years.  In 1902 he returned to Kansas locating on a farm in Labette county, and on 
Feb. 9, 1920 moved with family to Oswego.
	Mr. Walker was the youngest of a family of nine children, all having preceded him 
in death at an early age.  He was converted and joined the United Brethern church.  Later 
years having his membership at the Hackberry chapel now part of the church at Columbus, 
Kansas.
	He leaves to mourn his death, his wife, Mrs. J. S. Walker, four daughters, 
Mrs. C.D. Burger, Mrs. H. J. Whitten, Mrs. W. A. Duffy, all of Rowan, Iowa, and 
erna L. Walker at home; two sons, A. M. Walker of West Concord, Minn,. and M. G. Walker 
of Oswego; also 20 grandchildren, two great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.  
He was a loving companion and kind father.  No sacrifice was too great that would add to 
the interest and comfort of his family.  After a lingering illness since last June he died 
peacefully at his home in this city.
	Funeral services were held from the family home Sunday afternoon, Feb. 12, at 
2:00 o’clock, conducted by Rev. O.H.Deever, United Brethern minister of Parsons, Kansas, 
assisted by Rev. V.F. Cloninger, pastor of the Baptist church of Oswego.  Burial was 
made in the Elston cemetery in the family lot.  The pall bearers were old friends of 
Mr. Walker’s, J.D. Ohles, Fred Miller, Chris Hellwig, A.H.Mickey, J.M. Snooks, and 
Henry Parnell.
