Robert Duffy, Sr. passed away March 26th, 1895, at his home near Rowen, Iowa. The funeral services were held in the Congregational church of Rowen, March 27th, Rev. S. A. Martin conducting the services and preaching from Numbers 23:10, "Let me die the death of the righteous and let my last end be like his." It was an unusually large funeral, there being fifty teams in the funeral procession, friends both at home and from surrounding neighborhoods attending the last sad rites of an old settler, a kindly, honest old gentleman, known far and wide in pioneer days, who numbered friends and well wishers by the score. The interment took place in the Rowen cemetery. Mr. Duffy was born in Londonderry, Ireland, December 25th, 1819. He came to Canada in 1840. He moved to Connecticut in 1848. In 1855 he moved to Wright County, Iowa, where has since lived. He passed through all the hardships and trials incident to a pioneer’s life. Mr. Duffy was an affectionate husband, a kind father, an obliging neighbor, and a good citizen, he was respected by everybody. He became a Christian four years ago and united with the Congregational church. A few days before his death he told his youngest daughter that he was ready to go. His wife and four children have the sympathies of all in their great affliction. --------###
