He was baptized in infancy in Kongsberg church and confirmed in the Hedenstad church, Norway, and migrated to Eagle Grove, Iowa in the month of April 1894, at the age of seventeen, and made his home for a few years with his uncle, John Brown of Eagle Grove, Ia. until he grew to manhood. On March 15, 1899, he was united in marriage to Bertha Kjoberg of Eagle Grove, Ia. To this union was born one son, Carl, and one daughter, Agnes. As he was called to the ministry, he attended both the Red Wing and the Luther Theological Seminaries, and was ordained into the ministry in June, 1913. And in the same year he accepted the call from the Soldier Valley Lutheran Congregation, Soldier, Iowa, where he served as pastor fifteen years. In 1928 he retired from the ministry and moved to Eagle Grove, Ia., where he made him home for nine years with his son, Carl, on their farm two miles west of Eagle Grove and then moved to town where he lived until he passed away peaceably on the 23rd of January, 1945, at 10:45 a.m. at the age of 67 years, 6 months and 1 day. He had been failing in health for the last two years, and sought medical aid at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minn. but of no avail. He leaves to mourn his departure, his wife, Bertha Sunner, his daughter, Mrs. Agnes Kirkendall of Belmond, Ia., his son Carl of Eagle Grove, Ia., and seven grandchildren. One brother, Gustav Sunner, preceded him in death some years ago, and one sister, Anna, is living in Norway. Mr. Sunner was a kind and loving husband and father, and will be greatly missed by his family and by many friends. Funeral services were held on Friday afternoon of January the 26th at the home on 506 North Caldwell Ave., and at West Side Lutheran Church, conducted by Rev. H. S. Fauske. He was laid to rest in Rose Hill cemetery, Eagle Grove, Iowa.
