Gross, who is an ex-soldier from Boise barracks, had his shop near the corner of Main and Fifth and mounted the horse to go to his work. He carried three paint buckets in his hand and these scared the horse which enjoys an unequalled record for viciousness. The animal began to buck in the most approved plains fashion and Gross was thrown over the horse's head. He struck on his head and shoulders but his hand still grasped the rein. This held the horse which struck the prostrate man several times on his head and breast with its forefeet. When Gross was picked up he was unconscious, with blood streaming from his ears as well as from the wounds. Gross was taken to his home in Resseguie? addition and Dr. Collister was summoned. He found Gross had sustained a fracture of his left collar bone and that the skull had been slightly fractured near the base of the brain. Last night Gross was conscious, but there were grave doubts as to his recovery.
