DEATH OF AN OLD SOLDIER
 
John Maher, an inmate of the soldiers' home, died at an early hour yesterday 
morning of rheumatism and erysipelas.
 
The deceased was 67 years of age and came here from Emmett.  He was a sergeant 
during the late war in Silmonds' Independent battery of Kentucky light 
artillery.
 
The funeral will take place at 2 p.m. today from McGuire & Sullivan's 
undertaking parlors.  Interment will be made in the soldiers' cemetery near 
the barracks.
