He left this earth to join in a glorious reunion with his mother, father, and eight of his brothers. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and a friend to all he met. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 21, 2006, at the Boise 24th Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (3020 W. Cherry Ln.--Boise) with Bishop Michael Hillman officiating. A viewing for family and friends will be held on Monday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Relyea Funeral Chapel and at the chapel one hour prior to the services on Tuesday. Burial will be on Wednesday, February 22, 2006, in Bloomington, Idaho. NeVille was born on September 24, 1914, in Bloomington, Idaho, to William Ward Thornock and Grace Eleanor Wilks. He was the 9th of 10 boys born to this family. As a young man, NeVille sang with his cousin, Toby Wilks, at various events and on the street corners in Utah, often standing on a wooden crate to make himself taller. He had a beautiful tenor voice, and his wife and daughters enjoyed gathering around the player piano and singing with him. “Let Me Call You Sweetheart” and “My Wild Irish Rose” were among his favorite songs. NeVille enlisted in the United States Navy on his 29th birthday in 1943. He served in the South Pacific aboard Auxiliary Tug Fleet 114 alongside the larger Navy ships of the 58th Task Force. He was able to watch as the Marines carried the American flag up Mount Suribachi near the end of the war in 1945. On December 31, 1960, NeVille married the love of his life, Nona Mae Howard, in Boise, Idaho. They raised six daughters and had been married 45 years at the time of his death. He worked for St. Lukes Hospital as a maintenance engineer until he retired in 1977. He loved the outdoors and fishing and remained very active until he became ill a week before his death. NeVille was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had a strong testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ. He took great pride in his two grandsons currently serving missions. He was preceded in death by his parents and eight brothers. He is survived by his wife, Nona, six daughters, Judi (Les) Stone-Aaen, Juanita (Ken) Tigges, Grace (Robert) Lazenby, Deana (Dean) Richmond, Melanie (Greg) Mitchell, Beverly (Greg) Tank, 28 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. A third great-grandchild is expected in August 2006. He is also survived by one brother, Newell Bruce Thornock, of Bloomington, Idaho. The family wishes to express thanks to the staff of the Veterans Hospital in Boise for their loving care of our father during his illness and to all the friends and neighbors who took the time to care and show their support. Donations may be made in his name to the Idaho Youth Ranch or the Dakota Indian Children.
