Newell was born in 1851 at Cleveland, Ohio. When about 7 years of age she went with her parents first to Three Rivers Michigan then to Sturgis. In 1868 she was married at Sturgis to Samuel E. Wilson and 3 children were sent to bless their home. With her husband she moved to Scottsville, Kansas where they took up a claim and lived until 1888, then they moved to St. Joseph, Mo. Here Mr. Wilson died in 1896. On March 31, 1906 she was married to E. C. Baird and came to make Council her future home. She was taken ill on November 3rd and was a patient sufferer till death came to her relief on January 29. Mrs. Baird has made many friends here, she was a member of the Rebekah lodge and ready at all times to lend her assistance. She leaves to mourn her loss, a husband and two sons of her first husband also a mother of Blackwell, Oklahoma and a niece, Mrs. Tabor whom she has cared for from infancy. Funeral services were held from the Congregational church Sunday after-noon. Rev. Stover preaching a very appropriate sermon, interment was made in the Council cemetery. The members of the I.O.O.F. and Rebekah lodge attended in a body. The Leader extends its sympathy to the bereaved relatives in this their hour of sorrow.
