They traveled over the Old Oregon Trail, settling near Albany, Oregon. On July 17, 1873 she was united in marriage to James B. Houston. He was an Oregon Indian War Veteran. They farmed near Albany for several years, later residing at North Powder and at Lakeview, Oregon. They moved to Council in 1888, settling on a homestead three miles southeast of Council, which has always remained the family home. She resided on the homestead with her daughter, Mattie Wicklund. Her sister, Armilda, married her husband's brother, Thomas J. Houston and they moved to Council in 1890. All preceded her in death, and the four, so closely associated in life, now rest side by side in the Cottonwood cemetery. Surviving are four of her seven children: Mrs. Ross Newman, Laura E. Allen, Mattie E. Wicklund, and Flora L. Chance. She is also survived by three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A complete obit can be found in the Adams County Leader, Friday, March 1, 1935.
