COUNCIL RESIDENT PASSES MONDAY
 
Jack Ross answers final summons -- Came to Council Valleys many years ago.
 
Stonewall Jackson Ross, son of John and Nancy Ross was born in Montgomery 
county, Kansas, November 4, 1870 and died at his home in Council early Monday 
morning July 17, 1939, aged 68 years.
 
He was united in marriage to Christine Marie Hanson July 19, 1898, a union 
which was 41 years in length lacking but two days.
 
To them were born four daughters and one son.  The son John died in infancy.  
The daughters are Mrs. Nancy Beckstead of Boise, Mrs. Anna Emery and Mrs. Nell 
Upton of Seattle and Mrs. Jennie York of Melba.
 
Mr. Ross came to Council in the early days.  He had a blacksmith shop for many 
years and was always interested in machinery.  In the later years when his 
health became impaired he operated a shoe repair shop and was in his place of 
business part of each day until within the last few days.
 
Mr. Ross was a kindly neighbor, an honest business man and a loyal firend.  
The funeral rites were conducted at the Congregational Church Tuesday 
afternoon by the pastor Rev. Eunice B. Trumbo and his favorite songs were 
rendered by the Congregational choir.  Many beautiful floral pieces as well as 
a goodly attendance bore witness of the regard in which he was held in the 
neighborhood.
 
Burial was made in the Odd Fellows cemetery at Council.  All of the daughters 
were present for the services and remained with the mother for a few days.

We take this means of expressing our sincere appreciation for the kindnesses 
and thoughtfulness extended by the many friends and neighbors during the 
illness and death of our beloved husband and father.
