Laid to Rest
 
Mary Belle Kimball was born in Nebraska, May 29, 1876 and came west with her 
parents in 1882 and located in Long Valley being one of the first settlers.
 
At Meadows on Dec. 22, 1890 she was married to Wilburn Whiteley and three 
children, one daughter and two sons came to bless their home.
 
For the past nine years Mrs. Whiteley has resided in Council and was held in 
the highest esteem by everyone who made her acquaintance.  She was a kind 
wife, a loving mother and willing at all times to assist her friends and 
neighbors.
 
For the past few years she has not had the best of health and about a month 
ago was taken to Baker City where it was thought an operation would prove 
beneficial.  She died of paralysis of the stomach and bowels four days after 
the operation.  Her children and many friends here all thought she was getting 
along nicely and the tidings of her death was a terrible shock to the whole 
community.
 
The remains were brought home Friday and interment was made in the Council 
cemetery Saturday morning.
 
The bereaved husband and children have the sympathy of the entire community in 
this their hour of sorrow.

so kindly and willingly aided us during the illness and death of our beloved 
wife and mother.
