She was born October 24, 1899, in Provo, Utah, to James Barton and Emeline Cole Stratton. She married Ralph Phipps Hayes on April 24, 1917. He died July 23, 1918. After his death, she moved with her small son to a farm in Aberdeen (Idaho) where she made her home with her brother, LeRoy Stratton. After her brother's death in 1959, she moved from the farm to live near her son in Aberdeen. She lived in Aberdeen until she moved to the Hillcrest Haven Center. She was an active member of the LDS Church and served as a visiting teacher the many years she lived in Aberdeen. She was a charter member of the Aberdeen Post 59, American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed braiding rugs, fishing, sports, and dancing. She is survived by her son, Ralph M. Hayes, Aberdeen; a niece, Beth Hatt of Pocatello whom she raised as a daughter; five grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, three brothers, and two sisters. Funeral services were to be held Tuesday, June 29 at 1 p.m. in the Aberdeen LDS Second Ward with Bishop Morgan Anderson officiating. Burial was in Aberdeen Cemetery under the direction of Davis Mortuary. The order of services were as follows: prelude and postlude music was played by Sheila Lowder. The family prayer was given by LeRoy Hayes. The opening prayer was given by Ralph W. Hayes. Remarks were by Bishop Morgan Anderson, and the life sketch was given by Verna Gay Mardson. Vernon Lloyd sang "Going Home." The speaker was Bishop Wayne Kendell and Don Adams sang "How Great Thou Art." The benediction was given by Steven Hayes. The dedicatory prayer was given by Leland Sorensen. Casket bearers were Ralph, LeRoy, and Steven Hayes, Leland Sorensen, David Phillips, and Harry Dunn. Honorary casket bearers were Don Hatt, Shelby Neville, Roland Duffin, Marion Gull, Fairald Harris, Cecil Savage, Vern Phillips, Ferrell Westover, and Clarence Poulson. Ushers were the High Priests. The flowers were cared for by the Second Ward Relief Society.
